Virat Kohli is India’s Most Successful Test Captain

India whitewashed West Indies 2-0 in the Test Series at the Caribbean Islands. India leads the ICC Test Championship with 120 points. This is Virat Kohli’s 28th win as the Test captain of the Indian Cricket Team. And with this win, Virat Kohli has statistically proven that he is indeed the most successful test captain.

India dominated West Indies and clinched the series convincingly. But this win against West Indies was of more significance to the captain because this has helped Virat Kohli break Ms Dhoni’s test captaincy record. He currently has played 49 test matches as the captain and won 28 of them.

Virat has constantly faced tremendous heat from critics for his lackluster captaincy in the other two formats of the game. He hasn’t managed to lift a single multi-nation trophy after being appointed as the captain of the ODI and T20 side. Also Virat is criticized for his captaincy record in IPL as the RCB captain. However, he has a surprisingly good record in the longest format of the game.

Virat Kohli was the first Indian captain to defeat Australia in Australia in a test series. He was also the first Indian Test captain to win a match in SENA nations.

It is true that captain Virat Kohli was gifted with the best Indian team and the deadliest bowling lineup in the history of Indian team. Ms Dhoni left the captaincy at the right time for Virat. The ex captain deserves due credit for leaving behind a strong foundation for his successor. Dhoni backed players which didn’t perform well at the start of their careers knowing that they will be useful assets in the future. There are multiple factors that have favored Virat Kohli. Despite all this, we should understand that it takes efforts and skills to manage a star studded side like India and Virat Kohli has executed it well.

India currently tops the ICC Test Championship table with 120 points and Virat Kohli gets full credits for that. India has become strong, dominant and a ferocious team since Virat Kohli stepped up as the captain.
