Rohit Sharma to replace KL Rahul as the Test Opener

Rohit Sharma will replace KL Rahul in the the upcoming Test series against South Africa. Rohit Sharma had missed out on the West Indies tour. KL Rahul had opened the innings for India replacing Rohit. However, he hasn’t impressed the selectors and fans with his performances.

It was the talk of the town when cricket fans spotted KL Rahul was mentioned in the playing 11 instead of Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul had been granted a long time to prove his mettle in the longest format of the game. However, somehow he had failed to perform well and solidify his position in the Test playing 11.

Instead of providing you with statistics, we will provide you with a simple example to evaluate his performance. Cricket Australia had banned Steve Smith in March 2018. Since then, Steve Smith has played 5 innings and scored 671 runs. During the same phase, KL Rahul played 23 innings and managed to score merely 548 runs. It is disheartening to watch an extremely gifted player like KL Rahul under-perform on so many occasions.

On the contrary, Rohit has a staggering average of 60 in his last 15 innings. The social media was flooded with messages by cricket fans who wanted him to play instead of KL Rahul because of the above mentioned points. Further, Indian selector, MSK Prasad states that KL Rahul’s form is a concern and Rohit will replace him as the opener.

This news has gone down well with the fans as positive messages are flooding social media. There is no doubt that the fans always wanted their ‘double century king’ open for India in whites too. He will mostly open for India while the South African team tours India for 2 test matches. Fans will see Rohit in whites after a long time as prior to this he played tests against Australia. KL’s future seems doubtful as he needs to prove himself playing the Ranji season and then earn a spot.
