Hello fellas and cricket nomads, we hope that you are having a great time! and how can we forget to wish you a Happy New Year! So did the recently concluded IPL Auctions got you geared up for the IPL 2020 already! Well it’s going to be a year were T20 format will play a dominant role citing IPL and the most coveted T20 World cup to be played in October-November. Well. coming back to IPL, this years auctions were also as amusing and unique in it’s own right as were the earlier auctions, in which we saw some marquee players getting sold-off for their base price itself, and some uncapped and younger players going for million (and deserving so). One of the marquee players is Chris Lynn from Australia who is touted as the T20 specialists, was sold to Mumbai Indians for his base price of Rs 2 Crore, with no other team even bidding for it! while his team-mate Pacer Pat Cummins got sold for a whopping 15.5 crore (the most expensive player this year and second overall) to KKR, who at the start of the bidding had a base price of Rs. 2 Crore.
Well before coming to the analysis for each team, let me mention the name of those not so well known uncapped players that went for swashbuckling amounts which no one even expected them to be sold at – Yashasvi Jaiswal a new batting sensation who is sold to the Royals for Rs. 2.4 crores, another young sensation Varun Chakravarthy was sold to KKR for Rs. 4 crore, and Jharkhand’s Virat Singh was sold to Hyderabad for an impressive Rs.1.9 crore.
Now let’s come to analysing the opening combination for the teams, first lets start with RCB – The most optimum opening combination for this team seems to be Parthiv Patel and the newly bought player Aron Finch, which could prove to be an excellent left-right combination for the team in red, whilst we have also seen the captain himself opening alongside Parthiv at times, but this time Virat could help himself at the no.3 batting position as Finch is a tailor-made opening batsman, so the middle order could well be taken care of by Kohli and ABD.
CSK – probable opening duo – Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis, Watson has proven to be a really good value addition for Dhoni and co. as he was very much instrumental for CSK in winning the cup for the record third time in 2018, as he showcased excellent form and class, while last year was a bit of a roller-coster for him, but still Dhoni will place his trust in him along with Faf, and middle order which will be taken care of by Rayudu and Raina, but CSK do not need to worry about their batting performance, as they have a very deep batting line-up.
Up next is team SRH (Hyderabad)– Probable opening duo – David Warner and Jonny Bairstow, Yes! who better then this duo! they both have been more then successful for gibing SRH the required head-start and successfully chasing down big scores, there was no other pair in that came even close to their record, Warner took the orange cap last year after amassing a total of 692 runs and his partner in crime Bairstow smashed 445 runs in as many as 10 games which he played last year, and in aggregate this pair smashed over 400 runs, which is almost the 70% of runs scored by SRH in the whole season, show me a better duo, I will wait!
Next up is team is the free spirited team KXIP (Punjab) – probable duo – KL Rahul and Chris Gayle, now we all know how fierce a opener Gayle is, as he has the best individual score in the IPL which is yet to be broken, and adding fuel to his fire will be KL Rahul who is also a power-packed batsman, who’s shots look so effortless and subtle and he’s such a clean striker of a ball, he has had his share of ups and downs both in IPL and Indian Team, but has managed to maintain his Charisma and elegance as a powerful batsman, having more then the potential to give a strong start and lay a solid foundation for his team in any given condition, Punjab will hope for Rahul to carry his sublime batting form into the IPL as well, Rahul and Gayle have been the most consistent pair in the last couple of years, Rahul has a tally of 1252 runs(both the years) and the universe boss has a tally of 858 runs for both the years.
Next up is team, the national Capital, Team Delhi, probable opening duo – Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan – One of the youngest batting sensation of India Prithvi Shaw has shown more then what he is capable of delivering for the National team in the future the U19 WC Winning captain has shown excellent grace and maturity in his batting style, while he last played for India in 2018, he scored a century on his debut test itself and showed no signs of stopping as he again repeated the same feat in the next match again, while might not be playing regularly for India due to injuries and controversies he has showcased his class in the 2019 IPL, as he scored a total of 353 runs, while Prithvi promises to go all guns blazing, there’s also another insertion in the team in the form of Rahane through the trading window, as he is also an experienced opener for India, but he can also serve a useful no.3 batsman alongside Risabh Pant to tackle tricky situations in case both the openers fail to fire.
Coming to the current trophy holders, Mumbai Indians! – porbable opening player slot – Quinton De Cock and Rohit Sharma, we all know how dangerous a player Rohit can be for the opposition team when he gets going, after having an excellent world cup in England and an excellent 2019 altogether the owners would like him to continue with his form and take his team to another title, while the South African south-paw, who is no less a match for Rohit, as we have always devoured his cover drives and flick shots, his record in India is impeccable, after blowing hot and cold with RCB for 2 seasons, they decided to have a trade-off with Mumbai, and the rest is history, De Cock has aggregated a total of 529 runs in 2019! and also collected the award of being the best batsman for Mumbai last season. But MI also have the leverage of Chris Lynn this time around so there might be a excitement to go with this fiery opener, in anyways Mumbai are going to have great results.
Now coming to the Nawabs – Team Rajasthan Royals – probable opening duo – Jos Butler and Robin Uthappa, while RR did showcase the potential to be in the top 4 in the last season, but it was one shot too many for them, as there was a conundrum for them about who is going to bat at No.4 for them as there were a lot of options, but in the end they didn’t find a concrete option. While being a veteran batsman, having a lot of IPL experience can make him a go to opening batsman, but this time around they have a rising star in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal who is also going to be the captain of the U19 world cup 2020, while RR my’s well experiment this time around with the openers, as all of them are natural openers, but as Uthappa hasn’t had the best of IPL seasons and is not much in the reckoning and also considering the age factor at the moment so Jaiswal might just have the edge over him as being a young gun, but only time will tell about their destiny for the opening slot.
The last but not the least is team KKR! – probable opening players slots – Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi – While KKR had a easy go to batsman in the form of Chris Lynn until last year, but that advantage is now gone, as KKR are willing to try Gill in the opening slot, initially Gill was considered as a middle order batsman by the management, but until last year he was given a chance of playing in the opening slot, and boy! didn’t he impress the management and the fans, the U19 world cup sensation has shown no signs of stopping since his successful stint in the world cup just like his other team-mate Prithvi Shaw and Risabh Pant, this young talent has shown a lot of promise and maturity in his batting style and temperament in handling pressure cooker situations with compatibility and calmness, while on the other hand Rahul Tripathi who catched a lot eye balls of the spectators in the 2017 season in which he played for Pune had shown a lot of easiness and elegance in his striking, but after that season he didn’t have a fixed batting position, which led to a downfall in his batting performance as he had to face different situations every now and then which he was not quite suited to, but if he is fixed in the top order and especially in the opening position KKR could well garner the best of his abilities and could well bring out the best in him which would eventually benefit the team as a whole.
