Steve Smith has made a comeback to the international side after 12 months. He is having a wonderful Ashes series and is currently ranked at the No.1 spot. Cricket fans are already believing that he is the current best Test Batsman.
The Australian Cricket Board had banned Steve Smith after the ball tampering incident in 2018. It was not long before that the cricketing world was sledging and labeling him a ‘cheater’. However, his recent performances have made the entire world bow down to him in awe and respect. He has played 3 out of the 4 Ashes matches and has managed to go past the three-digit figure in all but one innings that he played. His lowest score in an Ashes 2019 Test match is 82.
These scores took Smith from the 2nd position and go past the Giant Virat Kohli to become the World No.1 batsman. Being an Indian, I would want Virat Kohli to be on the top of that chart. However, it is a fact that we Indians are proud of Steve Smith and his performances after the exile. It takes character, determination and dedication to fight against all odds and emerge as the best in the world.
Steve Smith has a tough competition to retain his top spot as his spot is being challenged by none other than Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli is already ruling the ODI top chart and he would be eyes the Test spot too. It was after Virat’s duck against West Indies which helped Smith go past him in the ratings.
The other close contender for the spot is Kane Williamson. He is just a few points away from being in the race to be the No.1 Test batsman. Honestly, we believe all three of the batsmen deserve the top spot in the test rankings.
